Delhi, India. October, 2014. Kathputli Colony is a slum located in the Shadipur district of New Delhi, India. What began as a gathering of tents on vacant public land in outskirts of Delhi in the 1950's setup by traveling puppeteers from Rajasthan, the colony now occupies 6.5 hectares of land, and is home to almost 40,000 residents. Kathputli is unique among slums in that it is mostly comprised of performers, artists, and puppeteers, many from the northern state of Rajasthan, but also from provinces such as Gujarat in the west, and Andra Pradesh and Maharashtra farther south - forming a kind of "mini-India."
